08.27.18 Tattooing as Warpaint

The sacred art of tattooing can be seen as an excavation process by which we bring to light that which lies in our shadow. The images and words we choose to adorn our flesh with display descriptions and storied expressions of the unique landscapes of our internalities. The act of wearing tattoos is truly warlike act of magickal will and expression, against a modern world that promotes normalization,  mediocrity and universal monoculture, and rejects nonconformity, self exploration, and our wild untamed inner spirit. We decorate and mark ourselves with warnings and welcomings on the threshold, the boundary between the world within and the worlds without. We attempt to gain ground against that demiurgic lie that attempts to make anthills of our assertions that we are in fact the Gods who write our own gospels, if only graffitied on the walls of our fleshly prison cell walls. We wear our liberation across our hearts and on our sleeves...
